Rowing Canada Aviron : 2008/09 Adaptive Rowing Development Grants


Rowing Canada Aviron, via the Adaptive Development Committee, is pleased to announce that four Adaptive grants of $2,500.00 each will be available in the 2008/09 season for RCA registered clubs or PSO initiatives within clubs.  These grants are designed to support some or all of the following adaptive rowing initiatives:

•    Development of new adaptive rowing programming;
•    Training and development of coaches focused on adaptive rowing ;
•    Equipment purchases to support recreational and or competitive adaptive rowing.



Applications are now being accepted for the 2008/09 year. Applications must be received no later than May 21, 2008.  Applicants will be notified about the status of their application by May 30, 2008.  In order to be eligible, applications must be supported by the appropriate Provincial Rowing Association.

Background:
Rowing Canada Aviron has been actively leading the development of Adaptive Rowing within Canada since 2002.  RCA has recognized the profound impact that this program can have for athletes with a disability and the positive impact that an adaptive program can have within a rowing club.  With this recognition, RCA would like to provide opportunities for further development at a local and provincial level.   

Who can apply?
RCA member Provincial Rowing Associations and RCA member Rowing Clubs with registered RCA members.

Project timelines:
All projects must be complete by March 31, 2009.

What should be included in the application?
In order to comprehensively evaluate applications, the applicant must include details on the following:

•    The proposed activity or project. (who, what , where, when, why and how);
•    A detailed budget for the proposed activity;
•    A schedule outline with start date and completion date;
•    The project’s evaluation process (how will you and RCA know its working?);
•    The province or club’s experience with adaptive rowing;
•    Contact information for and coaching certification levels of the project leaders/coaches;
•    The province/club’s long term adaptive goals;
•    Any partnerships that will be developed to support the project;
•    For clubs, a letter of support from the appropriate PSO.

The Adaptive Development Committee encourages applicants to work with their PSOs to put together a comprehensive application.

Please note:  Applications without these details cannot be considered.


Final Reports:
Projects must be completed by March 31st, 2009, with final reports provided to Rowing Canada Aviron within two weeks after completion.  These reports are to include an evaluation of the project, a financial statement, participation numbers, the short and long term outcomes, a description of ‘knowledge gained from the project’ as well as how it has benefited (and how it is anticipated to benefit in the future) the club and/or province’s adaptive rowing delivery.  Photos would be most appreciated!  Failure to submit final reports in a timely manner could affect your organization’s applications for future grants.

Deadlines:

Applications must be received by May 21, 2008.  Confirmation of funding will be provided by May 30, 2008.   RCA’s Adaptive Development Committee will review the applications.  All PSOs will be contacted regarding the status of applications within their region.
