There will be a junior camp held on Saturday, May 10th at South Niagara Rowing Club.
The camp will be in the afternoon and run between the hours of noon and 5.00 pm at the latest.
The camp is an opportunity to practice on the Welland course where the June time trials will be held as well as receive some technical pointers.
There will be a 2k time trial as part of the camp which is an opportunity to practice a 2k time trial on the selection course as well as get some feedback on your boat speed.
All work at the camp will be in singles and pairs as per the Junior Time Trials boat classes.
PLEASE PROVIDE YOUR OWN EQUIPMENT AS WE WILL HELP IN EXCEPTIONAL CASES BUT WE DO NOT HAVE EXCESS SMALL BOATS AT THE CLUB THAT WILL NOT ALREADY BE IN USE BY THE SNRC ATHLETES..
We recognize that some scullers will be competing in the Head of the Martindale so feel free to join us afterwards and if you miss the technical row or come late for it that is fine as long as we know. You can always join in just for the time trial.
The schedule is as follows:
12.00 pm meet at the boathouse
12.30 pm technical row
2.00 pm break
2.45 pm warm-up for a time trial
3.30 pm time trial
4.00 pm wrap up meeting
Please respond to John Ruscitti by Wednesday, May 6th at midnight by the latest.
It is open to all juniors - any rower born in 1990 or later. Junior B athletes ( born in 1992 or later) are welcome to attend as well and if we have a number of junior B athletes who do not feel comfortable in a small boat then we can look to create composite big boats to get them out on the course and involved in the camp. Junior A athletes should be prepared to participate in small boats unless you are a novice ( please inform us).
A reminder that the selection for the Junior National Team takes place on June 2nd and 3rd in Welland at the SNRC and it is a small boat- singles and pairs- regatta. This selection is for the World Championship team heading to Austria this summer and the CanAmMex team heading to the U.S.A in a site TBA. Further to this , the final 2k ergometer test is due by May 4th and should be submitted to RCA. Go to the rowingcanada.org webpage for more details.
Please spread the word to athletes and coaches, clubs and schools as the camp is open to all and it is a great way to expose yourself to the National Junior program and the exciting opportunities that exist this year and the years to come.
