Guest Speaker: Pierre Lafontaine, Swimming Canada

Pierre LaFontaine A graduate from Concordia University in Montreal, Pierre started his coaching career in 1976 as the Assistant Coach for the Pointe-Claire Swim Club.

Pierre has contributed to the advancement and success of swimming throughout his coaching profession. His career spans two continents, where he held Head Coach and Assistant Coach positions in Montreal (Québec), Calgary (Alberta), Atlanta (Georgia), Phoenix (Arizona) and Canberra (Australia). Most recently as Head Coach at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), Pierre led 4 swimmers from the AIS to podium results at the 2004 Olympics. Previously, as Head Coach of the Phoenix Swim Club in Arizona, he led his swimmers to eight medal victories at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney.

In 2005, Pierre took on the role as Swimming Canada’s CEO and National Coach.

Guest Speaker: Vicki Harber

 

A former national team rower from 1981 -1984, Vicki Harber has a PhD from McMaster University studying the female athlete. Currently she is working at the University of Alberta in the Faculty of Physical and Recreation, with a cross-appointment in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She teaches in the area of basic human and exercise physiology, nutrition, body composition management and exercise endrocrinology.


Vicki is a member of the LTAD network of presenters and is in her final year of an IOC Sport Nutrition diploma.

With a considerable sport background in basketball, volleyball, rowing and soccer, Vicki has been a successful athlete and coach at all levels of sport.
